A Baltimore City man who previously went to jail for murder has been convicted of raping an 11-year-old Baltimore County girl.

According to the news release, a jury convicted Royal Quinn of first degree rape, attempted first degree rape, and kidnapping after a 4-day trial, ending on Sept. 2.

On Dec. 2, 2019, an 11-year-old girl was on a footpath near the baseball fields of Norwood Elementary School in Dundalk. Quinn grabbed her from behind, dragged her to a grassy area and threw her to the ground. Quinn pulled her pants down and sexually assaulted her. Quinn left the scene and the victim ran toward the school and got help. Video and additional evidence led investigators to Quinn.

Baltimore County State's Attorney, Scott Shellenberger, thanked his prosecutors, Robin Coffin and Fran Pilarski, as well as the Baltimore County Police Department for its thorough investigation.

Mr. Shellenberger said, "Today we are assured that a very dangerous man will be in jail for a very long time. The victim was so strong to walk into the courtroom and tell this terrible story. She is truly brave."

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 16, 2021. The State will be seeking sentencing of life without the possibility of parole.
