TOWSON, Md. (WBFF) — A Baltimore County jury convicted a man from Baltimore on first-degree murder charges in a shooting in Dundalk in 2019 that left a woman dead in front of her home, according to the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office.

32-year-old Ricky Raheem Charles was convicted on first-degree murder charges in the death of Melissa West. Charles faces the possibility of life in prison without parole.

Investigators say that on the evening of September 19, 2019, police found West lying in the street in front of her home on Fairview Avenue, shot in the chest and back. Police discovered that there had been a dispute between West and the driver of a blue Dodge SUV and Avondale Road shortly before the shooting.

Prosecutors say that Charles, who was the operator of the SUV, followed West to her home and shot her. A witness testified that Charles spit in West's face after he shot her. Police matched the DNA from the saliva on West's face to Charles.

Charles is scheduled to be sentenced in January.
